Whyalla to Port Lincoln SA

 Day 3

13th February 2022

A relaxed start for a short hop today.

We took a bit of a drive along the foreshore before heading on our way.

View of the heavy works from Hummock Hill

We also made a side track to the top of hummock hill which had a great view of the steelworks and the gulf. A very long coal train went by while we were there.

Roy had the binoculars out and spotted a dorsal fin or two in the bay. Not long after we we saw paddle boarders in the same location!

Finally headed South, next stop Cowell where we saw a painted silo which looked ordinary from a distance but was impressive close up, camel, bird and local identity. We stopped at a boat ramp going into Cowell for our morning cuppa and had a chat with a fella who was hunting beach worms and thought that we might know where to find them!

Silos at Cowell

After a good wander around the silos we headed on until we spotted a sign indicating that one of the attractions of Tumby Bay was a painted silo so we turned in and spent some time on the edge of the beach . Took advantage of the local facilities and walked the jetty where the local kids were jumping off and having a ball.

Under the jetty, Tumby Bay

Very reminiscent of the old Ardrossan jetty. We could seen the huge silos from most parts of town so had no trouble finding the painted silo of a couple of kids- possibly jumping off the jetty!

On to Pt Lincoln and stopped at a lay by by the water to make some lunch just out of town.

The car gps sent us via a circuitous route to the Marina hotel where we booked in. Very swish with kitchenette and large bathroom - almost a view of the water- can see the top of the masts! Only a stones throw from the water though .

Dinner is booked at the hotel dining room . Best table next to the water. As it looked so nice.

A bit of a walk around town before dinner.

Prawn boat

Hopefully not a preview of things to come!

Fancy dinner at the Marina Hotel

Sun setting over the tuna fleet
Fascinating to see the fishing fleet and the fancy houses on the canals. We have most of tomorrow to explore Pt Lincoln before meeting the dive boat people and getting on board for 3 nights!!
