Day 12

A day in Victor Harbor

Washing day! Washing into the machine nice and early and onto the line, nice and breezy for drying.

Video call to mum at 10am local time. She was in good form and remembered various people and places in SA, her home state.

Tried to do some internet blog stuff but gave up in frustration at the poor internet, both wifi and Optus were hopelessly slow.

Headed out to cousin's place at Port Elliot, had coffee and toasted sandwiches, lots of chat.

They drove us out to their block and the straw bale house he built. Roy took the quad bike down to the dam to find snakes- found just one black snake.

red bellied black by the dam

They took us for a tour of the local area and around Yankalilla, his brother's farm.

We drove ourselves back into Victor Harbor and walked out on the jetty to Granite Island. Walked up on top and around then back to the mainland.

Looking back at Victor Harbor from Granite Is.

A whale stop over - no longer a whaling town

Found a curry to supplement the left overs and headed back to the cabin for dinner.

Booked accommodation for Mt Gambier and Apollo bay. Internet enormously frustrating.

Bed!

Day 13

Victor Harbor to Mt Gambier

We took the longer, scenic route to Mt Gambier, of course and found that there is a Ferry at Goolwa. We didn't have to wait too long and it was a bit of fun to go on a ferry again. Its been a while!

Roadside poster showing where we were and the route we were taking

Here comes the ferry!

We drove down through the Coorong, never been before, and pulled off where there was a sign to Pelicans.

I was rather hoping to see a lot of pelicans close up.

Fortunately for the pelicans, they were on an island off shore

These little guys were in numbers a lot closer to shore, plovers perhaps?

Chinamans lunch stop

Middle of nowhere for lunch

Half a bit of shade for lunch

A bit of history

More lovely melaleuca flowers

We just had to make a quick stop to shoot the big lobster at Kingston

Drive by Robe beach, no surf running but beautiful blue water, blue skies and cars all over the beach!

Arrived Mt Gambier, checked into hotel and went to find the famous Blue lake. Beautiful, drove right round then investigated other lakes near by.

Valley lake for an evening sundowner.

Found pub for dinner. Jens hotel.
