Day 15
Mt Gambier to Apollo Bay
SA to Vic on Great Ocean Road
The most unusual and picturesque collection of boat houses, spied as we crossed the bridge at Nelson.
And where is Nelson? Right here!
Mount Gambier to Apollo Bay. Blue is sort of close to the route we took.
We stopped at Port Fairy for a cuppa and a look around town. Looks like a Melbourne getaway, a lovely little spot. Real estate looks pricey!
Broke out the thermos at Port Fairy
Most unexpectedly we spotted Tower hill reserve almost on our route so we diverted slightly to have a look see and a drive through. Clearly a popular picnic spot and we saw loads and loads of black swans.
Tower Hill reserve.
On to Warrnambool where we made a brief Grocery stop. We were looking for the elusive Arnotts (nee Menz) yo yo biscuits but had left our run too late - they are only sold in SA (and perhaps just over the border) and bubbly to take to our friend's place where we going to stay near Castlemaine. We had more luck with the bubbly and popped it into the car fridge to cool down.
Great ocean road
Boat bay
Wow, Great Ocean Road living up to expectations at first stop!
Bay of islands
Hmmmm
Roy spotted a Sea Lion with a fish down in the Bay.
Wow!! Amazing to watch, but I sure hope that poor fish was dead the way he was tossing it around.
Bay of Martyrs also wow
The missing apostle?
The Grotto
The Grotto was definitely worth all the stairs.
London bridge
London Bridge. I definitely would not have wanted to be out there when the land bridge fell down! Its a long way!
Great flocks of starlings flew out of the scrub as we walked down the path to the view.
Quick stop to try and fit in all the sights. Park and walk.
Great spot to enjoy a cuppa at Port Campbell
Lochard Gorge
Such a beautiful coastline, so lucky with the weather and definitely worth a visit!
Unexpectedly the road signs directed us to turn left to see the12 apostles. There was a big car park, kiosk etc, cars everywhere! But we were still able to walk under the road and over to view them. There was a big pavilion for helicopters doing a roaring trade in joy flights.
The twelve Apostles. We could only count 8 left, including the rubble.
Off to Apollo bay for the night .
Drive through the Otway National Park Down to Apollo Bay beachfront apartments. Turns out we mixed up the booking and accidentally booked March, but fortunately they still had one spare room.
Walked along the front road and found a Chinese restaurant for dinner. Lots of left overs for a doggy bag, and walked back along the beach in beautiful evening light.
A beautiful sunset for the day on Apollo Bay beach
Looks lovely 😍 On my wish list to visit some day
