We spotted a sign on the 'highway' and made a short diversion to the art gallery in Poochera. Unfortunately it wasn't open, but we had a good look through the window and in the 'gardens' which had metal animals.

A billboard on the road advertising Pildappa Rock, looked like something we should have a look at. A diversion 15km dirt road to wave rock: so worthwhile. Fantastic find and a lovely place to set up the morning tea and have a walk on the rock. This appeared to be encouraged.

After a spectacular walk on the rock, we headed back to the road and got back on track towards Kimba.


Meanwhile, we stopped at the painted silos at Kimba. A strange town strongly shut on a Sunday so no milkshake for Roy ! We made a sandwich for lunch by the silos. We couldn't get very close as the silos were barricaded by fences, and parking in front was banned - didn't feel very friendly!

We then found the big galah, also in Kimba- halfway point between west and east coasts. BUT even the café at the galah was closed today .

An odd town, friendly with silos and galah but not friendly with limited access and everything closed . At least the toilet was open!!


On to Orroroo!

We took Horrocks pass after Pt Augusta on to Peterborough . A very twisty but interesting road.

This large and  Stroppy blue tongue lizard on the road did not want a rescue, but we insisted and hopefully it lived well for another crossing.


Stayed at the Peterborough roundhouse motel- about the only thing open for accommodation on a Sunday, and ate Pasta at the railway hotel - definitely the only place open in town for food!

 February 3rd 2022 Nearly organised to head off on our next adventure, Covid allowing. Madly assembling underwater camera gear and arranging pet sitting so we can relax into the journey. Rodney Fox Shark Expeditions - We Know Sharks... Not quite sure what to expect but sure that it will be a big adventure. More to come as we get closer to departure. Currently Port August that we have to travel through has been inundated with flood waters, so we are hoping that those will subside before we arrive.

 Thursday 24th Feb Day 15 Mt Gambier to Apollo Bay SA to Vic on Great Ocean Road The most unusual and picturesque collection of boat houses, spied as we crossed the bridge at Nelson. And where is Nelson? Right here! Mount Gambier to Apollo Bay. Blue is sort of close to the route we took. We stopped at Port Fairy for a cuppa and a look around town. Looks like a Melbourne getaway, a lovely little spot. Real estate looks pricey! Broke out the thermos at Port Fairy Most unexpectedly we spotted Tower hill reserve almost on our route so we diverted slightly to have a look see and a drive through. Clearly a popular picnic spot and we saw loads and loads of black swans. Tower Hill reserve. On to Warrnambool where we made a brief Grocery stop. We were looking for the elusive Arnotts (nee Menz) yo yo biscuits but had left our run too late - they are only sold in SA (and perhaps just over the border) and bubbly to take to our friend's place where we going to stay near Castlemaine.  Day 5 Tuesday,  15th February  Neptune Is, SA Neptune Is North Bottom cage on left, surface cage on right Woke up early on the boat, saw the hint of a coloured sunrise and we were moored off an island. After breakfast the boat shifted to another island for us to swim with the sea lions. We snorkelled this time , glad we did as the sea lions didn’t come in very deep. Also getting into the tender boat with scuba looked very difficult . The tender took everyone on near shore and we made lots of splashing and noise to attract the sea lions in to play which eventually they did! Back to the boat which was moved to a quiet spot for lunch before moving further south for the cage diving at Action Bay.
